Millennials And The Dentist Industry: What You Need To Know

Millennials-And-The-Dentist-Industry

It is a fact that millennials are now the majority working group and by 2030, they will be 3/4th of the whole working population. So, as a dentist in Miami, you will be having more millennial patients coming for not just regular dental work, but also for cosmetic dental work as well as in the coming year, for their children’s dental work. However, like everything else this generation has left their mark on, the millennials have different expectations and requirements from their dentist than the generation before them.

Before that, let’s first see, what kind of oral health problem is plaguing this generation the most. According to a report of ADA (American Dental Association), one in three millennials has gum and teeth problems which often hinders them from smiling in public places. Quite a many also said that this is preventing them from doing their best during a job interview. Moreover, one in five millennials dreads socializing due to their dental problem. Tooth pain is the most common reason for which the millennials look for a dentist, while other problems plaguing them include untreated tooth decay, and biting and chewing problems as well.

Now, the area in which the millennials differ from their predecessor the most when it comes to going to a dentist is, how they choose a dentist. They don’t blindly go to the dentist they have gone to as a child, or even look up the directory to find the nearest dentist. Having been brought up in the age of technology, their first instinct is to Google their dental problem before looking for a dentist. Then they prefer reading blog posts and finding reviews from social media sites before settling on a dentist to go.

The next important factor that guides how and when a millennial needs a dentist in Florida is money. This generation has a lot of problems when it comes to money; quite a percentage of them have massive student debt and the job market has not been kind to them. Now that they are in their prime spending years, they are more concerned about saving money for buying a house than spending it on costly dental issues.

Another issue that you have to factor in is that this generation is notorious for their short attention span. They are used to getting information at their fingertips. So, when it comes to their dental appointment, they want it to be fast and also convenient to their needs. Furthermore, they want maximum benefit with minimum cost hence procedures especially cosmetic dentistry for them have to be short and effective. Hence procedures like teeth whitening that takes about an hour, cosmetic tooth bonding, and contouring that can be done in one visit are popular with them.

Millennials are often blamed for disrupting the status quo of many businesses; but the fact remains that this generation also has problems (low employment, huge debt) that previous generations did not have. So, to raise up and offer them quality dental care, you also need to accommodate their concerns and problems. When that is done, there is nothing stopping you from becoming a popular dentist among the millennials.
